How to get to Mongolia?
• By air
The international air transport is operated by Mongolian Airlines (MIAT),
Russian Aeroflot, Korean Airlines and Air China. Flights are available from
such cities as
Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Moscow, and Berlin.
• By train
Trans Mongolian Railway operates since 1938 from Russian border via Ulaanbaatar
to the Chinese border about 1,110 kilometers. This is very extraordinary way to
explore Mongolia while you are travelling. Travellers can take the train from
Moscow (or St Petersburg) or Beijing.
What is the main mother tongue?
The official language of Mongolia is
Mongolian language. English, Russian and Korean are the most widely
spoken foreign languages in the country.
How to get around?
Inside the city you can use taxi for transportation. There are many official
taxi companies operating in Ulaanbaatar. You can travel by air to all 21
provinces of Mongolia. You can also travel by road, often by unpaved roads of
countryside. Duration of the trip depends on mode of transport, condition of
the road to the destination and weather conditions.
How about climate?
Mongolia has a harsh continental
climate and four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The
hottest month is July with +25’C as average and the coldest month is January
from -15’C to -25’C. Climate is dry, average rainfall – 200-220 mm. Usually
from November till late April it is snowing, May to June is spring and it is
windy. July to September is summer, though it may rain during this period.
September to November is autumn with cool but sunny days.
Which currency is accepted
generally?
The Mongolian national currency is
called Tugrik. US Dollars, Euros, British pounds can be exchanged into local
currency in general everywhere. In the city the large hotels, restaurants and
bars accept Deutsche Marks and Japanese Yens as well as major credit cards such
as Visa, Amex, and Master Card etc.
How about medical services?
Medical services are available
everywhere. All necessary expenses connected with any medical treatment have to
be paid by the patient. As a matter of policy we advise tourists to avoid the
consumable medicines.
How about food preference?
Main food of Mongolia varies from
beef, mutton and noodles. In Ulaanbaatar International cuisine including
vegetarian food can be made available, vegetarian restaurant can be found.
What is included in trip cost?
Usually accommodation in city and
countryside, internal transport, camps and meals are covered. Visas and
international transport is not included. Travel insurance is strictly advised
to be done in your country.
