ALTAI TAVAN BOGD NATIONAL PARK

Altai Tavan Bogd mountains, the highest of which is Khüiten Peak. Nearby is the massive Potanin Glacier.

Overview

Altai Tavan Bogd National Park sits in remote western Mongolia, bordering China and Russia. It's home to the towering, Altai Tavan Bogd mountains, the highest of which is Khüiten Peak. Nearby is the massive Potanin Glacier. In the center, the vast Khoton and Khurgan lakes are connected by a channel and home to many fish and bird species. The ancient rock carvings of Tsagaan Salaa lie on the park’s northeast fringe.

Itinerary

Day 1.

At the arrival meet guide and transfer to the hotel**** to check in. Visit Chinggis Khaan museum and National Museum of Mongolia for an excellent overview of country’s history and culture and religion and explore national square so called Sukhbaatar square situated right heart of the where you can stand on the city zero point. Overnight at hotel****. (L+D)

Day 2.

Arrive at Bayan Ulgii province after Ulgii city in the morning. Excursion by car from city to Tsagaan Salaa’s river until 5th century АD. Turkic stone, which is discovered by Russian scientist in 2009.  Overview of bronze age art complex. At Altai Tavan Bogd’s smallest subrange Tsagaan Salaa’s river valley that is stretches from 15 km wide to 500m you will experience about 10000 cave paintings, ancient cultural remains and artifacts Overnight in tent. Day 3.

Drive to Mongolia’s largest Potanin Glacier /53.5 square km / and other Alexander, Graneg glaciers. You will experience unforgettable excursion to largest Potanin Glacier. It covers 53.5 sq.km and ice river starts from Altai Tavan Bogd Snow peaks. Riding on horse-back along the river you will have a great opportunity to observe the beautiful wild untouched countryside, fresh air and fresh water. Overnight in tent. (B+L+D) 

Day 4-5.

Drive to Khoton and Khurgan lakes. The lakes are the resource of Mongolian second largest Lake Khar Us (Black Water) and have crystal clear water and are fed by many rivers and streams originating in the Altai Mountains. The landscape around the lakes is very beautiful and picturesque with the snow-capped mountains surrounding them, green meadows at their foothills and larch forests in the middle, and sand dunes. This is a nice place to hiking, birdwatching. On the way, we will constantly visit local families. Overnight in tent. (B+L+D)      

Day 6.

Drive back to Ulgii town. Visit Kazakh nomads and see Golden eagle. Take a souvenir. Overnight in local hotel. (B+L+D) 

Day 7.

Flight to Ulaanbaatar. Tour of the Chinggis Khaan Statue, the biggest equestrian statue in the world - 40 meters tall stainless-steel statue symbolically pointed east towards his birthplace, on the bank of the Tuul River at Tsonjin Boldog. Drive to a 13th century complex. After lunch, visit to Relay-station camp, educational camp, shaman camp, King Palace and wear Mongolian traditional costumes. Horse riding is an experience. Back to Ulaanbaatar and continues to shopping Mongolian cashmere. Overnight at hotel****. (B+L+D)

Day 8.

Transfer to the airport. (B)
